Description:   Maintain within emacs a rolodex-like database (2.35-5)
The Big Brother Data Base (aka BBDB, `The BBDB') allows one to maintain a database of addresses, URL's, telephone numbers, faces, and other personal information. It has been integrated into several email and news clients (e.g., gnus, vm), so that, for example, one can edit and manipulate information within such clients; such news and mail clients can also perform various operations (e.g., name rewriting) based on data stored in the bbdb.
Usage Hints:
To initialize the bbdb to be used with the mail composition, mail and news readers that you use (i.e., to establish keybindings for various mail and news packages), add a call to the function `bbdb-initialize' with various arguments; see the bbdb documentation for more information. For example, to initialize the bbdb for use with the message composition package (which gnus uses) and gnus, add the form (bbdb-initialize 'message 'gnus) to your emacs initialization file. Again, see the info docs for more information on how to call `bbdb-initialize' for your particular needs. XEmacs users: bbdb is already available within xemacs itself through xemacs's own package management system. See also the package `xemacs-sumo-pkg', which contains the bbdb.
